Proprietor Adam's CommentsFinca Allende was started in 1995 by the tandem of Miguel Angel de Gregorio and his sister Mercedes. Miguel went to school at the Univerity of Madrid and studied architectural engineering and enology. Even though he has been on the wine scene in Rioja for somewhat of a short time, he has shown his greatness as winemaker for several other wineries in the region. He is known as an innovator and with Finca Allende he uses state of the art winemaking equipment to make his wines. Located in Briones (Rioja Alta region), the land is very rocky with stones a plenty. These conditions make for long aging wines with tremendous depth and character. This wine, while tasty now, has at least a decade or more of aging gracefully.
The De Gregorio family has been making wine for over 300 years. In fact, Nicolas De Gregorio was the vineyard manager for forty years at Rioja's oldest winery, Marques de Murrieta.
