Full ruby. Crushed dark berries, bitter chocolate and licorice on the nose. Thick and powerful but silky for all its density. Intriguing salty and earthy nuances contribute to the chewy impression of extract. Very ripe, serious, concentrated wine with just enough acidity to maintain its shape. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins. A lot of wine for the price.

A blend based on 60% malbec. Medium ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackberry and fruitcake, with a medicinal note of licorice. Dense and suave on entry, then concentrated and firm in the middle, even a bit youthfully bound-up, with sound acidity framing the black fruit flavors. Less pliant today than the winery's two 2009 bottlings, finishing with strong black fruit flavors, substantial tannins and excellent grip. This needs at least a couple years of bottle aging. Very serious juice for twenty three bucks.

2008 O. Fournier

The 2008 O. Fournier Centauri is compsed of 45% carignan, 30% cabernet sauvignon and 25% merlot. Opaque ruby. Aromas of black raspberry, smoke and cola, with a peppery overtone. Densely packed but penetrating, with firm minerality and acidity currently keeping the wine's dark berry fruit on a leash. Not yet pliant or expressive but finishes with expansive perfume and very good persistence.
