"Opaque ruby-purple. Aromas of balsamic vinegar, herbs and milk chocolate complicate red fruit notes on the vinous nose. Juicy and sweet but youthfully unforthcoming, with a classically firm teroldego structure underpinning the sappy bitter red cherry and herbal flavors. The long finish leaves an impression of residual sweetness that's buffered by slightly edgy acidity and firm, building tannins that reach the front teeth."

2004 La Spinetta

The 2004 La Spinetta Sassontino is made in a similarly intense style, but it possesses a more layered expression of fruit. The wine took quite a bit of time to open in the glass, yet it offers outstanding potential. There isn’t a whole lot of Sangiovese typicity here, but this is very pretty wine nonetheless. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019.
