2007 Terrabianca

The 2007 Terrabiance Campaccio is beautifully ripe and succulent in its dark, extroverted fruit. In 2007, Campaccio veers on the edge of overripeness but there is just enough acidity to keep things in check. French oak, smokiness, new leather and licorice add depth to the rich, creamy finish. I am not sure how the 2007 will age, but it should provide highly pleasurable drinking for at least another decade. Campaccio is 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.

2008 Domaine Serene

The 2008 Domaine Serene Yamhill Cuvee Pinot Noir is medium ruby in color, with an expressive nose of spicy red fruits and considerable terroir character. On the palate the fruit leans to the dark side of the spectrum with intense black cherry and black raspberry flavors as well as excellent grip, balance, and length. This tasty effort can be enjoyed now but has the stuffing to evolve for 2-3 years.

2006 Alfred Prunotto

The 2006 Prunotto Barolo is an overachiever in this vintage. Dark cherries, plums, mint, spices, herbs and a host of other balsamic notes are woven together nicely in a wine of notable class. The wine gains richness and volume on the mid-palate, leading to a long, powerful close. This is another impressive effort from Prunotto.

2006 Col Solare

The 2006 Col Solare is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Syrah. The wine was aged in 75% French and 25% American oak, 100% new. Deep crimson-colored, it displays a captivating perfume of sandalwood, lavender, incense, spice box, black cherry, black currant, and a hint of chocolate. Medium-bodied, elegant, and already complex, it has layers of succulent fruit, impeccable balance, and a lengthy, pure finish. It will continue to evolve for another 4-6 years and offer a drinking window extending to 2026. Col Solare is a partnership between Tuscany’s Marchesi Antinori and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates which began in 1995. The 2006 crush was the first in Col Solare’s splendid new winery in Benton City, one hour west of Walla Walla.

2008 Robert Mondavi

The 2008 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a big wine loaded with black fruit, cedar, licorice, grilled herbs and tar. Layers of flavor build effortlessly to the muscular, virile finish. Despite its size, the 2008 Reserve maintains elements of classicism that serve to balance some of the wine’s more extroverted leanings. The wine impresses for its depth, expressive inner perfume and beautifully integrated tannins. It is a showstopper from Mondavi. The 2008 Reserve is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot.
